About shearinguk

In the early 2000s, I began volunteering at the local country park, where I developed a passion for working with sheep. This experience allowed me to gain valuable insights into animal husbandry and the significance of sustainable farming practices. To further enhance my skills, I attended Sparsholt College, where I earned a shearing award from the British Wool Marketing Board. This recognition not only acknowledged my proficiency in sheep shearing but also deepened my commitment to contributing positively to agricultural and environmental efforts. Volunteering in this capacity has been both fulfilling and educational, underscoring the importance of preserving our natural landscapes and the animals that inhabit them.

Shearing Method

The style of shearing I use is the Bowen method. This technique is widely recognized for its effectiveness and precision. The Bowen method involves a strategic approach to shearing that emphasizes both the welfare of the animal and the efficiency of the process. It focuses on the natural contour of the sheep's body, resulting in a clean and even cut that minimizes stress and discomfort.

This method not only helps in producing high-quality wool but also contributes to maintaining the health of the sheep by reducing the risk of cuts and injuries. The Bowen technique requires skilled hands and a keen understanding of the animal's anatomy, making it essential for shearers to be well-trained in this specialized method. By adopting the Bowen method, I ensure that the shearing process is performed in a manner that prioritizes both quality and care for the livestock.

Why choose shearinguk?
